‘What the hell is that?’: US Congress airs footage of apparent UFO off Yemeni coast
A video appearing to show a missile being launched at an unidentified orb off the coast of Yemen has been sensationally shown for the first time.
Footage appearing to show an unidentified orb being struck by a missile has been sensationally aired in a US congressional hearing for the first time.
The footage, which Republican congressman Eric Burlison said was supplied to him by an unidentified source, was shown publicly on Tuesday during a hearing on “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena” (UAP) – more commonly known as UFOs.
Mr Burlison said the footage was taken on October 30, 2024, and “is of an MQ9 drone tracking an orb, or this object, off the coast of Yemen”.
“You’ll see that another MQ9 launched a Hellfire missile,” he said.
“I’m not going to explain it to you, you’ll see exactly what it does.”
A Hellfire missile is laser-guided and able to travel faster than the speed of sound.
In the footage, the missile appears to connect with the unidentified flying object. Masses of debris appear to break away from the object before the footage switches to a view from a further distance away.
“This is when it’s zoomed out, you can still see it travelling,” Mr Burlison said.
Before airing the footage, the congressman said he was “not jumping to the conclusion that there are aliens coming from another planet”.
“But I’m open to that,” Mr Burlison said.
The congressman called on Las Vegas television reporter and UFO investigator George Knapp for his opinion, who expressed his surprise at the footage.
“That’s a hellfire missile smacking into that UFO and just bouncing right off, and it kept going,” Mr Knapp said.
Mr Burlison said the footage of the missile strike “looks like debris was taken with it”.
“Yeah, what the hell is that,” the television reporter responded.
In the hearing, Mr Knapp also claimed a UFO sighting during the Cold War almost caused an exchange of missiles between the US and USSR.
The congressional hearing on Tuesday was officially titled ‘Restoring Public Trust Through UAP Transparency and Whistleblower Protection,’ and fell under the US government Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets.
The task force was established in February in response to an executive order from President Donald Trump ordering the declassification of information on historical assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King.
Besides historical assassinations, the task force was also tasked with investigating documents relating to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, 9/11 terrorist attacks, the origins of the Covid-19 virus and UFO sightings.
Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets chairwoman Anna Paulina Luna said the hearing sought to “improve transparency and provide better answers on UAPs”.
“The American people deserve maximum transparency from the federal government on sightings, acquisitions, and examinations of UAPs and whether they pose a potential threat to Americans’ safety,” Ms Luna said.
“Whistleblowers who provide details on spending information and policies and procedures regarding the classification and declassification of UAPs should be able to do so without retribution.”
