An unusual commuter has been spotted on a “self-guided tour” at a Sydney train station.

A koala explored Casula station in Sydney’s southwest west last week, with CCTV footage capturing the moment.

The koala appeared to wander around the platform before making its way up the steps.

Transport for NSW posted the footage to social media, calling the koala an “un-bear-ably cute passenger”.

“While it took a self-guided tour of the station, a train guard notified the Security Control Centre, and incoming trains were warned to slow down when passing through the area,” the Facebook post read.

“With the guidance of some NSW police officers, it found its way back to the bush safe and sound.”

The “self-guided tour” took place just before 4am Friday, according to 9 News, with one commuter delighted to see the koala.

People were quick to comment on the video, with one questioning whether the koala had tapped on.

“Surprised the cops didn’t chase him for an opal card! To see if he tapped on,” one person joked, with Transport for NSW replying they had “checked the footage, he didn’t”.

“That’s too cute! Hope the koala is safe!” another commented.

However others called the situation “sad”.

“It is rather sad that due to deforestation and clearing of koala’s habitat these precious creatures have nowhere to go,” one wrote.
