Footage of a deadly predator has been released after two people were attacked by a crocodile in a popular West Australian tourist destination.

Authorities are increasingly concerned about the 2-3m saltwater crocodile, as this was not its first attack.

Footage from June shows the animal launching at people on a boat in the same location.

Rangers and tourism operators in the area are aware of the beast, which has been a threat “for months”, and say they are not surprised it’s lashed out again.

On Tuesday, it was revealed two men were hospitalised with injuries after a dangerous encounter with the crocodile near Horizontal Falls on the West Australian coast.

The men, who were off-duty tour guides, were on a fishing vessel doing some crabbing when the monster appeared and apparently bit one of the men on the head.

A Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures spokesperson said both men were flown to Broome Hospital for treatment.

WA Country Health confirmed they were in hospital in a stable condition.

A Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions spokesperson said there had been an “interaction” between two people and an estuarine crocodile measuring between two and three metres.

It happened at Cyclone Creek in Talbot Bay, within the Lalang-Gaddam Marine Park.

“Earlier this year, a similar-sized crocodile was reported launching itself towards vessels at this location,” the spokesperson said. “Since that report, a park alert has remained in place for the Cyclone Creek, Talbot Bay area urging vessel operators and visitors to be cautious.”

Parks and Wildlife Service rangers are travelling to Talbot Bay to patrol the area.

“If a crocodile matching the description of the one involved in yesterday’s incident is located and continuing to pose a risk to public safety, an operational decision may be made to remove the animal,” the spokesperson said.
