Telstra suffers major outage affecting internet, mobile data
Telstra customers have been left unable to use one of their phone’s most vital functions after an outage hit customers in Australia’s major cities.
Telstra customers have been left unable to use their mobile data and internet following a major outage which has affected people across Australia.
The outage did not affect customers’ ability to make calls, however did leave them unable to browse the web via internet and mobile data.
Issues peaked at around 1pm, with over 850 people reporting issues at that time to outage monitor Downdetector.com.
Fifty-four per cent of customers posting on Downdetector.com reported having internet issues, 26 per cent had experienced phone problems, while 21 per cent had no network or reception.
“@Telstra when will we have a stable service? I have a terminally ill person in my care and no mobile or home internet and phone,” one person said on Twitter.
A Telstra spokesperson told NCA NewsWire the issue has now been resolved and had only affected customers for “a number of minutes”.
“We had a brief network issue this afternoon that stopped some of our mobile customers from accessing the internet for a few minutes. Calls and SMS weren‘t affected at any stage,” the spokesperson said.
“We’re sorry for the hassle and we’re keeping a close eye on things to ensure everyone can keep browsing.”
However, some have reported experiencing issues with their internet through Wednesday afternoon.
A Telstra spokesperson said that individuals may be having localised issues unrelated to the mass outage.
“The problem that affected a broader base of our customers has been resolved for about an hour now.”
