Samsung flip phone looks like it came straight out of the noughties

SAMSUNG has a new modern flip phone that looks like it came straight out of the noughties. Sure it’s nostalgic, but will it be any good?

IT was the must-have gadget for teens during the dawn of the new millennium.

And now Samsung is bringing the flip phone back, reports The Sun.

It’s created a shiny black premium version of the retro phone which boasts two screens and a keypad with actual buttons- just like the good old days.

The “Leader 8” boasts two screens and a 12MP rear-facing camera along with a fingerprint sensor.

It follows mass hype surrounding the relaunch of the 90s classic, the Nokia 3310.

But unfortunately for Aussies, the Samsung blower will only go on sale in China for now, with no official word on when it will launch in the Australia.

But it’s likely that the handsets will be up for grabs online sometime soon if you’re willing to pay the worldwide shipping. Samsung hasn’t confirmed how much it will cost.

This is the second Samsung flip phone to come out of China this year, with Chinese telecommunication authority TENAA’s showcasing another model earlier this year.

Known as the SM-G1650, the flip phone features a 3.8-inch, 800x480 pixel display, ships with either 16/32GB of internal storage, a quad-core processor, 2/3GB of RAM and a 1950mAh battery.

The phone also operates on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and has a 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera.

Unlike another Samsung flip phone which leaked last year, the SM-G1650 has relocated the “home”, “back” and “recent” buttons above the navigation keys to make room for dedicated camera and email shortcuts.

Earlier this year, the announcement of the highly anticipated return of the Nokia 3310 proved consumers have a lust for nostalgia and smaller devices.

While the 3310 can’t be used in Australia long-term as it is designed to operate only on the 2G network, another smartphone manufacturer stepped up to fill the market demand for smaller smartphones.

The Jelly will be a “mini-sized phone with full features” that runs on Android Nougat 7.0 — the latest operating system found on most new Android smartphones.

Customers will have the choice between the Jelly or the Jelly Pro, which offer 8GB and 16GB of on-board storage respectively — this can be expanded to 32GB with a MicroSD.

The Jelly is the dream for people who don't want a big phone.

Both models will have a 2.45-inch display and a replaceable 950mAH battery capable of up to three days working time or seven days standby.

The smartphones will both include a 2MP front facing camera, with an 8MP shooter on the rear.

Other key features include a dual SIM card, gyroscope and GPS.

Since the concept was born in April 2016, the developers have been able to produce test samples of the product and believe it will start shipping in August this year.
