THE heavy commotion surrounding the announcement of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus meant a pretty significant change from Apple was overlooked.
Apple has made it much cheaper to replace a smashed screen on the iPhone, with the tech giant changing the pricing of AppleCare+ in Australia.
AppleCare+ is the company’s optional device insurance, costing customers $A129 for the iPhone SE and $A189 for the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Purchasing the optional insurance will subsidise the cost of a couple of repairs or replacements from accidental damage within a two-year period.
Coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 7, the company announced a couple of changes to AppleCare+.
Firstly, the company will no longer offer AppleCare + on the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus.
Additionally, Apple has made it cheaper to replace a smashed screen on all newer devices, although it will be more expensive to fix any other issues.
Previously, a flat rate of $A99 was charged to replace any hardware issue on the iPhone SE, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and $A149 to fix the iPhone 6S or iPhone 6S Plus.
Now, it will charge a service fee of $A45 for screen damage, or $A149 for any other damage.
This is good news for people who often break the screen of their iPhone, although it hard to not think it would have been better if Apple made its iPhone 7 screens more durable.
Customers can buy AppleCare+ when buying a new iPhone or within 60 days of their iPhone purchase — proof of purchase will be required.
