Young Jake Beams kicked the most two important goals of his footy career in an upset win

The Magpies were down by 11-points half way through the final quarter when 16-year-old Jake Beams stood up to help his side secure the biggest upset of the season. Read what happened.

'Charlie SPECIAL!' – 3 goals in 1 minute

A four goal final quarter from Glenorchy has seen them claim the upset of the season in the SFL running out two point winners over Lauderdale.

The now previously undefeated Bombers led by eight points at the final break in what was a scrappy game of wet weather footy.

But in just his third game of senior footy, Jake Beams kicked two crucial goals in the final quarter for the Magpies to run out 8.6 (54) to 6.16 (52) winners at KGV Oval.

Magpies coach Josh Arnold said he couldn’t be more prouder of his side taking their chances.

“Some guys for us it just wasn't their day but then you have some others who have great days as well,” Arnold said.

“But then even if it isn’t your day, you can have good moments and that was sort of what happened to young Jakey Beams.

“You know he had a few good moments, lays some tackles but then he snaps one from the pocket in the last quarter then a perfect front and centre minutes later and swings onto his left to put us in front.”

In what was a hotly contested game of football all day, the Bombers never extended the lead past 11-points.

But it was the inaccuracy in front of goal that has cost Lauderdale their undefeated streak but according to Arnold it was a mix of the pressure from his side and the blistering winds.

“Look we really applied the pressure around the contests and that is something we have worked towards this whole season so far,” Arnold said.

“I looked at the pressure gauge and it was up there, so it goes to show that we can apply that sort of pressure against the best teams.”

Magpies’ Bryce Alomes booted three goals which included the sealer in the 26th minute as Glenorchy crept out to an eight-point lead.

Lauderdale’s captain Sam Siggins also kicked three and the last goal of the game.

It puts the Magpies just one win out of third spot and they will get the opportunity to take on third placed North Hobart next Saturday.

“We had a good chat about it all after the game and the game next week as well,” Arnold said.

“The thing we really spoke about is we know we can now bring this type of game but we don’t want to bring it just for one game.

“So we keep turning up week in, week out, at training as well to make sure we can play four quarters.

“But for now we will enjoy the win and then get back to it this week ready for the Demons.”
