Almost a year ago Chloe Covell broke Australia’s heart when she her bid to become Australia’s youngest medallist at just 14 ended when she failed to nail a series of seriously difficult tricks before finishing a creditable eighth.

On Monday, the 15-year-old schoolgirl, who has earned big raps from many in the industry, including Tony Hawk after becoming the first female to nail a 720 trick - a manoeuvre by the legend back in the 1980s - was back to her best with a big win on the world skateboard tour.

Covell, who went into the Paris Olympics with big expectation after becoming the youngest women’s street gold medallist in X-Games history in the lead-up to the Games, cruised to het first victory at a WST Street World Cup in Rome, smashing her competition by a massive 20 points.

It was a perfect end to a great competition where the young gun, now a character in the remake of Hawk’s famous Pro Skater video game - had toppled the quarter-finals and semi-finals en route to beating 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Nakayama Funa and Matsumoto Ibuki, just 13.

Despite her hot form Covell admitted she had been nervous heading into the final day.

“I was super nervous because I failed the first trick and then I only had one left,’’ she said.

“But I pulled myself together and trusted myself.”

Sensational runs, one including a statement frontside nosegrind nollie flip out, a Suski grind, switch kickflip, backside smith grind, kickflip backside tailslide and frontside feeble, saw her head into the trick section of the final with a seven-point lead.

A big performance in her final outing, where she produced a frontside 50-50 kickflip to earn a 93.34 score - the highest of the final - secured her the win.

Born in Caringbah but now living at Tweed Heads, Covell is coached by her father, former NRL player Luke Covell.
