North Hobart and Clarence are joining forces to push for a ‘Pride Round’ in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League.

Both the men’s and women’s sides will lock horns on Sunday in the fourth instalment of the Pride game played between the two clubs.

North Hobart president Jill Taylor said she would like to see the competition follow suit.

“It goes beyond more than just the LGBTQI+, it is about inclusion and everyone deserves to feel included,” Taylor said.

“It is really special to be able to host this event, it is a such a great rivalry with Clarence and everyone does get involved.

“Inclusion is such a big thing in sport and it doesn’t matter if you male or female, straight or gay, you should be included and feel like you are always part of a team.

“We want to send a message to the community but also to the competition to get behind this game, and lets make everyone feel included.”

The men’s game will kick off with a T20 on Sunday morning before the women’s in the afternoon at TCA Ground.

What the men’s captains said.

North Hobart – Jack White

“It’s an initiative that both clubs kind of started up a few years ago, so to see the support it’s kind of gained over the last two or three seasons has been really impressive,” White said.

“It’s kind of a space that needs to be promoted a little bit more in some different aspects, but it’s a really positive start at the moment.

“It would be awesome to see the competition follow suit and make it a round, there is definitely room for it.”

Sam Rainbird – Clarence

“Massive, it’s the fourth Pride game now between Clarence and North Hobart, it’s a massive thing between the two clubs,” Rainbird said.

“For me personally, I think it just shows how inclusive in the environment we’re trying to create in cricket.

“It shows that cricket is a game for all people.”

What the women’s captains said.

Ella Marsh – North Hobart

“I guess it’s really exciting to be able to let everyone be their own self so I think that’s really important in sport,” Marsh said.

“I think this game, not only represents obviously the LGBTQI+ community but all inclusion in sport and I think it’s really important that we can develop on that, educate people and make sure that we’re really relevant with the time moving forward.

“I definitely think there is space for it to be a full round in both the men’s and women’s.”

Sophia Di Venuto – Clarence

“It’s very special that we can play this game with North and get together and support each other, to represent something that is pretty important and special for people at both clubs,” Di Venuto said.

“I definitely there is definitely room for it, this is the fourth year that we’re doing it, and I think clubs would get behind it across the competition as well.

“It adds a bit of spice this one especially with the girls it is always a tight game but that is how good cricket is and being with your friends makes these days even better.”

CTPL: Thrilling finishes highlight two day clashes

New Town took a big step toward entrenching itself in CTPL’s top four after their bowlers completed a dominant 141-run win over Lindisfarne in their two day clash at New Town Oval on Saturday

After the Bucks declared at 8-378, thanks to Jayden Vince’s incredible 209 off just 176 balls, Caelan Maladay (5-73) and John Montgomery (3-44) completed the job for the hosts with the ball.

A number of Lindisfarne batters made starts but the visitors couldn’t find the big partnership in order to avoid defeat.

Joseph McGann made a defiant 55 off 108 balls and got support from opener Harshtik Bimbral (29 off 81) and James Bourke (24), but they couldn’t hold off the Bucks’ attack.

At TCA Ground Clarence secured an eighth win in ten games this season after winning a thriller against second-last North Hobart.

Chasing the Roos’ 219, North Hobart fell just short on 203 with Shield star Kieran Elliott (4-48) and Sam Rainbird (3-34) doing most of the damage for Clarence.

Demons middle order batter Sanjay Anandarajah (61 not out off 152 balls) did his best to steer his side home, but three consecutive ducks by the batters number eight to ten in their order ensured Clarence would snare the points.

South Hobart-Sandy Bay dug deep to avoid outright defeat against high flyers Greater Northern Raiders at Queenborough Sportsground.

Rolled for just 107 in reply to the Raiders’ 8(dec)-355, a 98-run fifth wicket partnership between Thomas Willoughby (75) and Samuel Voss (71), plus a stoic late order 28 not out off 68 balls from Jonah Evans, denied the Raiders maxiumum points as the hosts finished on 7-249.

Glenorchy achieved the same goal against Kingborough, finishing on 8-145 in their second knock after trailing by 177 runs after each team’s first innings.

Vishwa Deemantha (45) and Trent Le Rossignol (34 off 66 balls) dug in in a fifth wicket stand of 55.

Cameron Walter took 5-40 for Kingborough.

Three T20 matches will be played on Sunday with North Hobart hosting Clarence again, Lindisfarne take on the Raiders and Glenorchy travels to South Hobart-Sandy Bay.
