Key men Jack Hayes and Matthew Broadbent have shaken off injuries and been declared fit for SA’s interstate clash against WA at Adelaide Oval.

Influential key forward/ruckman Hayes and playmaking defender Broadbent had been under clouds with calf and groin injuries respectively that forced them out of their clubs’ round five SANFL matches, but they returned to action on the weekend and pulled up well.

The only health concerns from SA’s original 35-player squad were to Sturt midfielder James Battersby and Central District forward Justin Hoskin, who have withdrawn because of soreness.

The final squad will be announced on Tuesday, ahead of the live stream of the highly-anticipated encounter on the advertiser.com.au website.

Coach Jade Sheedy said competition for spots, particularly in the midfield, had been hot

and that the selectors had settled on a high-quality, well balanced side.

The match will be played as a curtain-raiser to the 7.10pm AFL blockbuster between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs.

“When you get to this level and there's so many high quality players there’s going to be some good ones who miss out, that's unfortunately the reality of it,’’ Sheedy said, as the selectors agonised over the final make-up of their team.

“We’ve rewarded people who have been in form and we’re really happy with the squad.

“At this level there can be minor adjustments everywhere but we think we’ve done the best job we could have.’’

Eagles premiership coach Sheedy’s State coaching panel includes North Adelaide coach Jacob Surjan, South Adelaide mentor Jarrad Wright and Crows development coach Brent Reilly.

The Croweaters will be seeking to retain the Haydn Bunton Junior Cup after upsetting WA by seven points in their last meeting at Perth’s Optus Stadium two years ago.

SA will train at Thebarton Oval on Tuesday, where it will name its leadership group at a team meeting, and Adelaide Oval on Thursday evening before a team dinner.

Sheedy believes his team's strength lies in its balance.

“I think we’re well balanced and the mix between ground pressure in our forward half, inside-outside players through the midfield and then being able to defend and also have the ability to create from the backline is really strong,’’ he said.

“We’ve tried to cover as many parts of the ground as we can.’’
