Michael Jordan Last Dance documentary fast-tracked for salivating fans

The Michael Jordan documentary series that sent the basketball world into a frenzy with a simple trailer is coming much sooner than expected.

ESPN’s highly anticipated 10-part Michael Jordan documentary, “The Last Dance,” is being moved up to April.

Sources said the start date will be Sunday, April 19 in the United States.

It was originally slated for June.

The Post exclusively reports ESPN plans to make an announcement on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday (AEDT), according to sources.

ESPN declined to confirm either the start date or the GMA plan.

The documentary was set to debut in June prior to the coronavirus outbreak that has halted games at all levels of competition.

Social media has implored ESPN and American broadcast partner ABC to move up the documentary’s beginning because of the hunger for new sports programming.

ESPN and its other four partners — Netflix, Jordan, the NBA and Mandalay Sports Media — have heard the calls and have acted on them.

Netflix owns the international rights to the docuseries.

NBA fans have been salivating over the highly-anticipated series since the first trailer dropped on Christmas Day (AEDT).

It was then announced the rights holders intended to release the series at the conclusion of the NBA Finals — but the NBA season shows no sign of resuming from its coronavirus shut down.

Jordan’s Bulls were a powerhouse in the 1990s, winning six championships, however, it is anticipated that the series will focus on the NBA icon’s final season with the Bulls in 1997-98 as well as the events leading up to the break-up of one of basketball’s most powerful dynasties.

The one-minute wrap released in December features some of the 100 personalities who will feature in the doco including fellow basketballers like Dennis Rodman and Charles Barkley, musician and movie star Justin Timberlake, actress Carmen Electra and even former US president Barack Obama.

The debate over whether modern-day megastar LeBron James or Jordan are the true GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) of the sport continues to divide but there’s no doubt His Airness is the most universally loved figure to ever strut his stuff on the hardwood.

A 14-time All-Star and five-time league MVP, Jordan is one of world sport’s most recognisable faces and judging by the reaction to this trailer there’ll be no shortage of people waiting impatiently for showtime.
