REVENGE is a dish best served cold and at the Twin Ovals on Saturday former AFL player Kieran Lovell led the Tigers to a 25-point payback to the southern Bombers for their loss in round 11 at Lauderdale six weeks ago.
It was the last loss the Tigers experienced and coach Trent Baumeler said they were not keen for a repeat.
The Tigers had a brilliant first quarter, posting 5.4 to 0.2, but the foot slipped off the pedal after that as they had to win ugly
They only scored four goals in the following three quarter and were goalless in the third term.
“In the first quarter we were are able to get centre bounce wins and clearance wins, which enabled us to get the ball forward and put Lauderdale under a fair amount of pressure,” Baumeler said.
“To be able to convert on the scoreboard was really good, and to be able to get a fair volume of shots across the rest of the game was good but we were inaccurate in front of goal for the next three quarters.”
The third quarter was a scoring stand-off, with the Tigers scoring 0.5 to Lauderdale’s 0.1
“The conditions were tough with the breeze pushing the ball to the defensive side of the ground,” Baumeler said.
“We had to grind our way through it so it was pleasing to get those shots but we’d like to convert a lot better.”
Lovell kicked a goal and dominated the stoppages.
“For the past two week’s Kieran’s ability to win clearances and break away from clearances was brilliant,” Baumeler said.
“Kieran and James Webb are forming a pretty devastating duo both using their leg speed out of the clearances.
“It was a typical Kieran game around the stoppages where he was able to get the ball and get it forward and be dynamic, which was really nice to see.”
James Zeitzen gave the Tigers a strong aerial presence and bagged a game-best four goals.
Both teams wore specially-designed jumpers for the Indigenous Celebration Game and a Welcome to Country was held pre-game.
“It was a celebration and both teams played their part in that, and to see both clubs come together to put the game on and play some good footy, it was a special day,” Baumeler said.
At KGV, North Hobart did enough to beat Glenorchy in a tough encounter, the Dees winning by 27 points.
Josch Bingham and Cohen Stephenson kicked two goals each for the Dees, and Isaac Manson and Connor Ling each kicked two for the Magpies.
