Nick Kyrgios has gone rogue with an expletive-riddled attack on under-fire Channel 9 presenter Tony Jones.
The Australian tennis star shared an extraordinary video on his Facebook stories where he launched into a 15-second rant against the Footy Show host.
Jones returned to Channel 9 on Monday morning after it was revealed his “unprofessional” taunting of Serbian fans was the reason Novak Djokovic sensationally aborted his post-match interview with Jim Courier on Sunday night.
You can watch Kyrgios’ comments in the video below.
Djokovic stunned Rod Laver Arena and viewers on Channel 9 when he only offered up a few words to the crowd before walking off after a 6-3 6-4 7-6 fourth round win over Jiri Lehecka.
The Serbian superstar then fronted the media and made it clear that “offensive comments” made by Jones days earlier were behind his Channel 9 boycott.
Jones on Monday made a full apology.
Kyrgios earlier took a swipe at Jones on Instagram, but the former Wimbledon finalist took it to another level in the video shared on Monday.
Kyrgios shared footage from inside Melbourne Park where he appeared to be located near the Channel 9 on-site studio.
Taken from an elevated vantage position across the courtyard near Rod Laver Arena, Kyrgios’ video shows the camera zoom in on the Channel 9 broadcast panel where Jones was sitting.
Jones carried out his regular hosting duties on the Channel 9 coverage when it began at 10am (AEDT) where he was joined by Alica Molik, Lleyton Hewitt and Todd Woodbridge.
Kyrgios did not hold back.
“How the f*** does this guy still have a f***ing job? It is putrid stuff,” he said.
“Tony Jones, you absolute flop. F***ing Chompers mate.”
The Footy Show host has carried the nickname “Chompers” ever since his cosmetic dental work first became a regular joke on the popular AFL program.
Kyrgios had earlier given Jones a serve when sharing footage of Jones’ chants on his Instagram stories.
“Coming from this clown – couldn’t run around a park this bloke,” he posted.
American Danielle Collins also called Jones an “old guy” after he earlier labelled her a “brat”.
Jones’ apology on air on Monday has not been enough to quell the storm.
He spoke in an interview shared on Channel 9’s Today Show and made the sensational claim that he had already apologised to members of Djokovic’s support team behind the scenes — more than 24 hours before Djokovic’s walk-off.
“I was made aware on Saturday morning from Tennis Australia via the Djokovic camp, that the Djokovic camp was not happy at all with those comments,” Jones said.
“As such, I immediately contacted the Djokovic camp and issued an apology to them, so this is 48 hours ago.
“But any disrespect that Novak felt that I caused and as I stand here now I stand by that apology to Novak if he felt any disrespect, which clearly he does.”
He also apologised to the Serbian fans he heckled.
“I should also say the disrespect was extended, I guess in many ways, to the Serbian fans,” Jones said.
“And as you know... we have built up a nice rapport with the Serbian fans. They come here with the flags and they provide so much colour and so much passion – and there was banter.
“So I thought what I was doing was an extension of that banter. Quite clearly, that hasn’t been interpreted that way. So I do feel as though I have let down the Serbian fans. I’m not just saying this to wriggle out of trouble or anything like that. I genuinely feel for those fans.”
He said there were three words that angered Djokovic the most.
“I think the one thing where I overstepped the mark, and this is certainly what’s really sort of angered Novak Djokovic and his camp is the last comment that I made in that back and forth with the crowd, ‘Kick him out’,” Jones said of the chants he directed at the fans standing in the background of the camera shot.
“I can stand here and put whatever spin I want on that, but it can only be interpreted as a throwback to the Covid years when he was kicked out.
“That has angered Novak, which I completely understand now.”
Djokovic was famously detained by Australian immigration officers and held in an immigration hotel after having his visa cancelled upon arrival in Melbourne ahead of the 2022 Australian Open — because he was not vaccinated against Covid.
He was then deported.
The 37-year-old said on the eve of this year’s tournament that he still feels “trauma” when entering Australia.
Djokovic on Sunday night said he would continue his boycott unless he received an apology.
He plays Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster quarter-final on Tuesday night.
