Cygnet have held on in a tight contest to knock of its biggest rivals of the past four seasons.
Lindisfarne and Cygnet have built the rivalry between the two clubs over past few seasons with no love lost in Saturdays 11.13 (79) to 9.9 (63) victory to The Port.
There was plenty of spot fires throughout the game which blew out into a scrap between both sides on the cusp of the half time siren.
After not kicking a goal in the first quarter, Lindisfarne booted 4.3 to 1.1 to peg the score to just four points with both sides finding themselves involved in the scuffle.
Cygnet coach Lachy Watt said his side just went away from their style of football.
“They (Lindisfarne) got on top by playing their standard of footy and we got sucked into it,” Watt said.
“It is always a fiery contest against Lindisfarne, but it makes for a good match up against them.
“We spoke at half time about what we need to get back into and fix the areas we need to and did that after the break.
“Then we really switch on and took control in that third quarter to play our standard and brand of footy as well.”
A 6.8 to 1.2 third quarter for Cygnet blew the game wide open, giving them a 40-point lead at the final break.
But Lindisfarne weren’t going to fall over easy, kicking the only four goals of the final quarter but it wasn’t enough as Cygnet ran out winners by 16-points.
“It is always nice to get a win on their deck,” Watt said.
“I think over the past few years, us, Lindisfarne and Huonville all have really good contests.
“We have been the top three teams for the last few years and it creates the rivalry and plenty of feeling for when we line up against each other.”
Port skipper Joseph Direen booted a game high four goals taking him to 24 goals and second on the goal kicking list for the competition.
Direen sits seven goals behind Lindisfarne’s Ed Stanley who has kicked 31 goals this season with two coming in the loss to Cygnet.
