TASMANIA’S most experienced AFLW player Britt Gibson is in danger of missing the entire season as she recovers from unscheduled hamstring surgery.
A veteran of 30 AFLW games and two grand finals, Gibson, 28, had been struggling with a hamstring issue throughout preseason.
The club revealed she suffered a “high-grade tendon injury” at training last week as the Tasmania North Melbourne Kangaroos prepared for their opening match against Geelong.
The Kangaroos smashed the Cats by 62 points but did it without Gibson anchoring their backline.
As it prepares for a sell-out bout with St Kilda at Arden St on Sunday, North Melbourne’s AFLW football operations manager, Nathan Hrovat, said Gibson’s injury was a big loss.
“It’s a really disappointing result for Britt, who has been working really hard to get back to full fitness,” Hrovat said.
“We expect her rehabilitation to be around 10 to 12 weeks.
“We will ensure she ticks all the right boxes and hope to have her back as soon as possible as her experience and skills are invaluable to the team.”
