Tasmania’s big three recruits set to play important role as Tigers kick off WNCL season

A new look Tasmanian top order will be unveiled against the ACT, with coach Salliann Beams wanting her recruits to target an understrength Meteors attack

THE Tigers had a specific recruiting plan for this year’s WNCL season and coach Salliann Beams is hoping her new additions can deliver in the side’s 2021 opener against the ACT.

A thin top order saw the state lure former Kiwi international Rachel Priest, Heather Graham (West Australia) and Naomi Stalenberg (NSW) south, with all three to make their Tasmanian debuts at EPC Solar Park today.

Beams (nee Briggs) believes the Meteors — despite knocking off Queensland in the tournament opener last weekend — have a weakness with the ball, and will be looking to exploit it.

“We’ve really targeted our batting to add a little bit of depth and experience,” Beams said.

“We know the ACT team very well and they’ve picked up a few little niggles along the way. “We are looking to exploit their bowling attack, they’re going to rely on probably a little bit of inexperience to fill up the bowling attack and we’ve got to be competitive on that and take full advantage.”

Graham will not only bat in the top four but provides another bowling option for the side, while teenager spin sensation Amy Smith will be looking to continue her outstanding form from the WBBL in the 50-over arena.
