Tasmania’s AFL fixtures revealed for the 2024 season

Tasmanian football fans will be treated to some of the AFL’s best teams in 2024 after the fixture for next season was locked in. Here’s who you can see in action.

Tasmanian footy fans will see 2023 finalists Port Adelaide and St Kilda and powerhouse Geelong play in the state next year but will have to wait until seven weeks after the AFL’s new Opening Round to get their first taste of AFL action.

After North Melbourne opens its Tasmanian campaign against Adelaide Crows in Hobart on April 27, the AFL games come in a rush.

Between them, the Kangaroos and Hawks play four games in six weeks – two in Hobart and two in Launceston – accounting for half of Tasmania’s annual allocation of eight games.

Four of the teams being sent to Tassie in 2024 _ Adelaide, Port Adelaide, West Coast and GWS _ played here this season.

Hawthorn chief executive Ashley Klein was delighted for his club’s continued link to Tasmania and branded the game against the Saints as a “blockbuster”.

“Four games at UTas Stadium is a great result for our club given our strong record on the Apple Isle,” Klein said.

“We cannot wait to get back there and do what we do best.”

North Melbourne opens the batting with its round seven clash with Adelaide Crows at Blundstone Arena on the last weekend in April.

The Kangaroos then play Port Adelaide in round seven (May 25), Geelong in round 20 (July 28) and West Coast Eagles two weeks later in round 22 (August 11).

“Our fixture is a really positive result for the club from both a football and fan perspective,” said North Melbourne CEO Jennifer Watt.

”Spread across the season are our four games at Blundstone Arena.

“After finishing season 2023 with a win there, we are looking forward to being back at our home away from home in Hobart next year.”

Hawthorn opens its Tasmanian adventure against St Kilda in round nine (May 11).

The Hawks then face the Giants in round 13 (June 8), Fremantle in round 18 (July 14) and a final-round match-up with a Tasmanian Derby against North Melbourne (August 25).

“Our Tasmanian members will be treated to a slate of strong matches against some quality opposition, headlined by our Saturday afternoon blockbuster against the Saints in round nine,” Klein said.

“We are proud to be bringing back AFL matches to the football-loving community of Tasmania for the 24th consecutive season.

“Our partnership with the state has stood the test of time and is one that we value enormously.”
