Cricket Tasmania’s General Manager of High Performance Salliann Beams has confirmed batter Mac Wright will miss up to a year of action after tearing his ACL on Wednesday.

Wright went down in the field during the Marsh One-Day Cup loss to Western Australia on Wednesday with scans confirming the worst possible result for the 26 year-old on Thursday.

“It’s unfortunate for Mac Wright; he has done his ACL,” Beams confirmed on SEN Tassie on Friday.

“It’s a massive injury for him after such a breakout season for both the (Tasmanian) Tigers and (Hobart) Hurricanes so we will have to get around him.”

Beams also provided an update on female stars Molly Strano (hand) and Elyse Villani (shoulder) ahead of the WNCL final against Queensland on February 24.

“’Junior’ (Villani) stayed in Melbourne after the Victoria game to see her specialist, so we are hoping just a check up there and maybe an injection and she will be good,” Beams said.

“We are still working through (with Molly) but there is a break in there (hand).

“So it’s probably pain dependent for her because I know she won’t want to miss that game but we just have to take each game as it comes.”

Despite a host of injuries to first-choice players across both programs, both the men’s and women’s sides have dominated the domestic competitions this summer.
