Supercar legends Dick Johnson, Mark Skaife, Craig Lowndes and Allan Moffat get stamp of approval

“Should have made him King” - reaction to Australia Post stamps for motorsport awesome foursome gets crazy ahead of Symmons Plains.

SUPERCARS legend Dick Johnson is one of four Australian motor racing greats immortalized on Australia Post stamps this month and social media has gone wild with the reaction.

The awesome foursome are Johnson, Allan Moffat, Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife, and all but Moffat will be in Tasmania next week for round four of the Australian supercars championship at Symmons Plains.

The most “stamp love” came for Lowndes and Johnson, but not so much for Skaife, despite 482 race starts, 90 race wins, 42 event wins, 41 pole positions and being five-time supercars champion, six-time Bathurst winner and now race commentator.

Brett Maker wrote: “3 legends, 1 in his own mind. Drop Skaife, replace him with Larry Perkins the master engineer/driver or Jim Richards, who could drive the wheels off anything.”

Darren R Falconstein also not a Skaife fan: “Hope these are self-sticking stamps. I don’t want to be licking Skaife’s back.”

Steven Manganas wrote: “Skaife Stamps should have a 5c value…as $1.20 is pushing it.”

It wasn’t all bad feedback for “Skaifey”.

Kerri Gibens: “Congratulations to you all, as you are all amazing drivers, especially you Mark Skaife.”

Johnson, also known as the people’s champion after he famously hit a rock at Bathurst destroying his car, got a huge reaction.

Paul Madsen-Maddo: “Should have made him King!”

Kylie Shea: “Still the greatest, have already bought mine.”

Shaun Garrard: “And rightly so, absolute legend of Australian motor sport.”

But Col Whitelaw was not onboard: “I wouldn’t lick his behind when he hit the rock and I ain’t starting now!”

Some punters gave Australia Post a swipe.

Carey Wallis: “Mail still won’t arrive on time!”

John Bhouy: “If only Australia Post could deliver like these guys did.”

James Macca: “Holy crap, last time I bought a stamp it was 55c.”

Lowndes triggered a popular reaction.

Tracy Boon: “Congratulations, couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. You truly are the one of the fairest and greatest race sportsmen around.”

Colin-Mouse Newman: “Congrats Lowndsy, now we might get our mail really fast.”

Neal Hill: “Well done Craig, congratulations, the right person they have chosen for a stamp. You sir should be on an Australian bank note too.”

Cherisse Lynn: “Do I buy stamps as a souvenir, or do I post a letter? One thing’s for sure, I’d be excited to find your stamp in my letter box!”

Saron Thach: “Australia’s fastest stamp.”

Michael Whye is a big Peter Brock fan: “Dump Skaife, put Brock in his place.”

Australia’s greatest supercar figure, the late Peter Brock, already has Australia Post’s four-stamp King of the Mountain collection.

The supercars have three 42-lap sprint races at Symmons Plains on May 20-21.

Supercars will be supported by four categories _ the Tassie Tin Tops, Porsche Challenge, Formula Ford and Aussie Race Cars.

Tickets for the event are on sale on Supercars.com and Ticketek.com.
