Harry Croker only met the majority of his teammates for the first time earlier this week, and now he’s shaping as the key man to help Chile cause an international boilover.

Croker and the Weichafes will take on Malta at Forshaw Park in Sylvania on Saturday (1pm).

For the 21-year-old it will be the first time he wears the national colours of his heritage, and he will be one of their most experienced players despite his young age.

Croker has played NSW Cup with the Knights and is coming off a strong season in the centres for Souths in the Newcastle competition, regarded by many as the best local league in Australia.

When he runs out for Chile this weekend he’ll be representing his mother’s heritage, something he is honoured to do, especially alongside his cousin Mitch Black.

“The first time they asked me to play was about two or three years ago, but I was unable due to other commitments,” Croker said.

“Mitch was playing and coach Rod (Millar) asked him to shoot me a message to see if I was available.

“We had a training session on Thursday night where I met the boys and I was starting to feel a bit nervous.

“This will make our family’s proud to represent my mum and aunty’s side. It’s a good feeling and I’m keen for Saturday.”

Harry’s brother Matt has made waves in recent times in locking down a spot with the Knights in first grade, but due to a teammate’s wedding this weekend will be unavailable to run out alongside him.

First grade is a level Harry wants to reach, and he’s not giving up on his dream to get there.

“I asked him if he wanted to play but he had prior commitments. He’ll be supporting us though” Croker said.

“At the moment I’m signed with South Newcastle. I want to try and keep the first grade dream alive.

“It’s unfortunate what happened at the Knights. I thought I’d kick on and make it to the top 30 or a development (contract).

“It didn’t happen so it’s a bit of a reset button for me. I’d like to join a (State) Cup team, even if it’s in Queensland.”
