SOUTH Hobart winger Iskander Van Doorne set up both goals in his final match for the club as it eased to a 2-0 win over the Glenorchy Knights yesterday to remain in touch with the NPL Tas top two.

Goals to Benjamin Hamlett midway through the first half and substitute Samuel Berezansky midway through the second proved the difference at Darcy Street, as the Knights rarely threatened the South defence. South remains eight points behind NPL Tas leader Devonport, but has a game in hand.

Benjamin Hamlett gave South the lead in the 24th minute when he had the simple task of tapping home Van Doorne’s low cross from the right from six metres.

South went agonisingly close to doubling its lead twice in the 42nd minute, first when Adam Gorrie hammered his shot into the woodwork, then when Hamlett seized on the rebound and skewed his shot wide of the empty net.

Glenorchy substitute Jake Stuart had his side’s best chance nine minutes into the second half when a quick Knights counter ended with Callum Brown squaring to him, but his shot was charged down. Berezansky hammered home South’s second in the 67th minute after Van Doorne was played into space on the right and picked him out with a low cross. It was Canadian Van Doorne’s final match before he moves to play in Germany.
