SHE kept the same routine throughout her barnstorming week in town, but even after securing the Hobart International title Sofia Kenin declined to reveal what helped fuel her to success.

The American 20-year-old added her name to a long list of players who have triumphed in Hobart before becoming household names, defying nerves in her maiden WTA final to brush aside Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, of Slovakia, in straight sets at the Domain Tennis Centre.

Kenin, who is projected to rise into the top 40 players in the world after her breakthrough win, was a creature of habit while in the state’s capital, eating at the same waterfront restaurant every night.

However, if there was any secret to what helped her produce the best tennis of her career, she wasn’t letting it slip.

“I will have a lot of great memories, we kept the same routine these past few days, it was 10.30pm and we were still having dinner, same food, same everything,” Kenin said.

“I won’t say what we ate, but we had lots of bread and butter, that’s all I’ll say.

“It is a beautiful city here and I am happy to come back here many more years to come and keep defending my title.”

Top seeds Hao-Ching Chan and Latisha Chan defeated Kirsten Flipkens and Johanna Larsson in the doubles final, wrapping up a successful 2019 tournament which saw healthy crowd numbers enjoy plenty of great matches and matching weather.
