FUNNY man and footy fan Sam Pang has jumped onboard team Tasmania with his support for the state’s AFL team and accompanying Macquarie Point stadium.

The 49-year-old Melbourne comedian, television personality and former star teenage player joined his great mate, Tasmanian Hall of Fame member and former state player Nick Probert, in backing the Devils.

Probert and Pang first met when they played under-19 football for Collingwood in the early 1990s, and became friends.

Pang later moved to Hobart to study commerce at the University of Tasmania, and shared a house with Probert in Sandy Bay.

He signed on to play for Probert’s statewide league club, Sandy Bay, in 1995.

“When I first came down to play with Sandy Bay he came down to do a commerce degree at uni, and he signed up to play and did the 1995 preseason,” Probert said.

“The commerce degree wasn’t really his cup of tea and he missed the big city life, so he returned to Melbourne before the season started.”

Now a host on The Front Bar, panel member of Have You Been Paying Attention, a radio star and host of the 2023 Logie Awards, Pang is a fan of Tasmania.

“He absolutely loves it down here – he comes down a lot more than people would realise,” Probert said.

“He’s one of those Melbourne people who really understands what Tassie is like and that it’s a beautiful place to visit and it has got great passionate footy people.

“He’s a full supporter of a Tassie AFL team and he has been onboard for the journey having had that connection to Tassie and Tassie footy from 25 years ago.”
