Red-ball all-rounder Iain Carlisle is confident he can break through for a spot in the Hobart Hurricanes line-up next summer after his outstanding Sheffield Shield performances for the Tigers last season.

The 24-year-old Canberra-born medium-fast bowler and left-hand batter was a member of the Hurricanes squad last summer but did not debut in purple during BBL|13 as the Canes just missed a spot in the finals.

The Hurricanes’ BBL|14 squad took one step closer to being finalised following the re-signing of the promising young paceman to a two-year deal.

Carlisle was delighted to continue his Big Bash ambitions in Hobart.

“I’m really excited to be signing on with the Hurricanes again for the next two years,” Carlisle said.

“I’m looking forward to hopefully breaking into the starting XI in the coming season while helping bring success to the organisation and our Hurricanes fans.”

Carlisle made his Marsh Cup debut for the Tigers during the 2022-23 season against Western Australia, followed by his First-Class debut two weeks later against Queensland in the Shield.

Carlisle burst onto the national scene last season, taking 20 wickets in four Sheffield Shield matches as he helped Tasmania to the Shield Final.

Head Coach of the Hobart Hurricanes, Jeff Vaughan, was impressed with Carlisle’s desire and passion to succeed in Hobart.

“Iain is incredibly driven to be a successful cricketer, it has filled me and the rest of the coaching staff with pride watching his improvement over the past few seasons, and his success in red-ball cricket is a just reward for the effort he has put in,” Vaughan said.

“While he is yet to make his debut for the Hurricanes, we know that he is seriously talented and has all the skills required to be a threat in the shortest form of the game, with his swinging of the new ball, great variation and a strong bouncer.

“Despite there being plenty of competition for spots, I know Iain will put his best foot forward and potentially play a role for us in upcoming seasons.”

Carlisle joins Nikhil Chaudhary, Tim David, Paddy Dooley, Nathan Ellis, Peter Hatzoglou, Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Matthew Wade, Charlie Wakim, and Mac Wright as Hurricanes players under contract ahead of BBL|14.
