Herald Sun form analyst Stephen Brassel takes a look at Mornington races for Tuesday and settles on some promising types.

BEST BET

SOUL OBSESSION (Race 7, No. 8 — $2.30)

Resumes from a spell but bolted in when resuming last time in training over this course and distance back in April. Was considered good enough to then take on Listed company in Adelaide after that finishing midfield before placing at Sandown. Should account for this lot.

NEXT BEST

ANGEL ROCK (Race 6, No. 2 — $3.70)

Hit the line strongly to win at Kyneton when resuming and out marginally in distance she can prove too good again. Stable is low-flying at the moment and this looks another suitable assignment.

WHO’S YOUR PAPY (Race 4, No. 5 — $1.80)

Lightly raced three-year-old who hit the line strongly when second over 1600m at Swan Hill then into the city and knuckled at the start and used up to lead before weakening over 1600m at Moonee Valley. This is much easier.

ZESTY BELLE (Race 1, No. 8 — $1.60)

Should be a matter of ‘put in’ – ‘take out’ with this filly and a perfect banker for multis to kick off the day. She’s yet to win in five starts but they’ve all been in the city and include three placings at Flemington and Sandown. Just wins!

VALUE BET

MY LITTLE OLIVER (Race 8, No. 5 — $8)

Seven-year-old who has only won two races from 19 starts but worth including in the last as he drops in grade from benchmark 64 contests to a benchmark 58 and had to do a fair bit of work last time at Mornington after placings at Traralgon and Mornington in tougher grade.

Damian Lane is well placed to have a lucrative day at Mornington.

THE JOCKEY

DAMIAN LANE

Coming off the back of a treble at Flemington on Saturday Damian Lane fronts up at Mornington with a strong book of seven rides on the eight race program.

ZESTY BELLE (Race 1 No. 8, $1.60), OSTARA (Race 2 No. 7, $11), AKAHAI (Race 3 No. 1, $18), KARTINI DAY (Race 4 – No. 10), SAVABIEN (Race 5 No. 1, $4), STICKING POINT (Race 6 No. 4, $3.50), MISS ELENA (Race 8 No. 12, $8).

THE WEEK AHEAD

Caulfield and Bairnsdale on Wednesday, Warrnambool Thursday, Yarra Valley Friday along with The Valley that night with Benalla, Colac and Yea (Picnics) complementing the metro meeting at Flemington on Saturday.
