Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner around the nation in the major races this weekend.

Last week … two winners. Ever-reliable News Racing tipster Chris Vernuccio found the mark with his best bet Hasseltoff ($3.90), while colleague Simon Moy chimed in with his value bet Sword Of Mercy ($4.80). Wasn’t exactly the start to the new year we were looking for. We’re down on numbers with several on leave, but let’s hope those remaining find their range this week.

FLEMINGTON (9 races, start 2.05pm), ROYAL RANDWICK (9 races, 1.15pm), MURRAY BRIDGE (9 races, 1.06pm), GOLD COAST (9 races, 2.05pm)

FLEMINGTON

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (NewsRacing). Form: 13181

ZAC DE BOSS (Race 2, No. 2 — $2.70)

The unbeaten three-year-old gelding is on the back-up after a dominant win at the 1400m at Caulfield. It’s a sticky map for him, so he may find himself in the back half of the field but this is a pretty thin race.

Value bet: THAT GIRL (Race 9, No. 15 — $8)

BRAD WATERS (Racenet)

ZAC DE BOSS (Race 2, No. 1 — $2.70)

He’s green but very talented. No reason he can’t make it three in a row here.

Value bet: EL GUERROUJ (Race 4, No. 7 — $10)

SIMON MOY (NewsRacing). Form: 121x5

PANCHO (Race 6, No. 5 — $7)

Gets opportunity to reverse result to Defibrillate and has won twice second-up.

Value bet: GARIMPEIRO (Race 8, No. 10 — $4.80)

ROYAL RANDWICK

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph)

PINNACLE PRINCE (Race 2, No. 4 — $2)

This horse has only been beaten so far by star stablemate It’s Me and comes into this off a stunning win in the same grade last time out.

Value bet: DAME KIRI (Race 9, No. 6 — $10)

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 1121x5

PINNACLE PRINCE (Race 2, No. 4 — $2)

Exciting galloper from the Brett Cavanough stable who resumed from a spell with a dominant win at Randwick on Boxing Day and should again provide a good start to the day for punters.

Value bet: BANDERSNATCH (Race 6, No. 4 — $6.50)

LATEST BETTING: TAB FIXED ODDS

GOLD COAST

NATHAN EXELBY (Courier-Mail). Form: 22x16

MISS HIPSTAR (Race 2, No. 1 — $4)

Draws out a little, but she’s got brilliant gate speed to help offset that. Has just kept improving each time she’s jumped out of the gates. Did it well on debut at Doomben back in November, then over 800m at Ipswich last time, pinged out, controlled and sprinted away. In an open year, expecting her to win this and confirm herself a genuine Magic Millions chance next week.

Value bet: MARSANNAY (Race 7, No. 16 — $16)

STEPHEN BRASSEL (National Racing Editor). Form: 356x33

YAO DASH (Race 7, No. 10 — $5.50)

Nicely placed under the conditions of the race and good second to Eleven Eleven last time at Wyong and that horse has since won at Listed level. One start at the distance and beat Group 1 winner Funstar.

Value bet: PANIAGUA (Race 8, No. 3 — $21)
