NSW’S best U18s and schoolboy rugby players right now ahead of trials for national championships

They are the best U18s rugby and league players in the state chasing spots at the Australian schools and national rugby junior titles at two trials this week. Players to watch, TEAM LISTS

They are the young talent expected to be involved in a tug of war between rugby union and rugby league in the future.

Talent tipped to be wearing a Waratahs rugby or Blues rugby league jersey in the future and potentially running out for the Wallabies and Kangaroos in time.

Young guns out to make a mark in one or both codes of football.

But this week it is all about rugby for these teenagers.

Some of the most exciting prospects in both games will be doing their all as they chase spots at the biggest rugby tournament for young talent from across the country on the Sunshine Coast in less than a fortnight.

For the first time the Australians schools and national junior championships will be run concurrently with 49 teams entering the Queensland event.

We have scanned the team’s lists for Thursday and Friday’s selection trials at Northbridge and Forshaw Park and discovered stars of the future in all.

Here are just a few players of interest to watch this week.

The AAGPS 1st XV is a team bursting with future talent.

Top young rugby players in this side include Hayden Lavercombe and Isaac Fonua from Kings, the much vaunted Justice Taumoepeau from Joeys, Newington’s Heamasi Makasini and Jarryd King and the much talked about Angus Grover from St Ignacious who is captaining the side.

Their teammate Heinz Lemoto from Scots also played league for Penrith in SG Ball.

Makasini this year signed an extended deal with the West Tigers.

Lining up for CCC this week is Creighton Meafou who has been part of the NSW Waratahs pathway for some time.

A winger and second rower he played for the Waratahs U16 but has also captained the Illawarra Steelers in Harold Mathew’s competition.

Jack Kalms is another player who has been involved with the NSW Waratahs and league.

He is part of the Sea Eagles Harold Matthews team with teammate Beau McKee, also from Saint Augustine’s College. Both are in the ISA 2nd XV.

The ISA 1st XV has a number of rugby rising stars including country talent Selestino Mainakavika from Saint Stanislaus College, Darcy Feltham from Oak Hill College and Cyrus Bloomfield from Oak Hill College.

Felton is also playing rugby league with Souths and Bloomfield is playing juniors with Parramatta.

Their teammate Beau Alexander from Saint Augustine’s is the son of NRL legend Greg Alexander and played with Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in SG Ball.

In the CHS team is Lake Kingston-Cruz from Greystanes high school.

This No.9 also plays U21 rugby league with the Coogee Wombats.

On the GPS II side is young talent Matthew Gough from St Josephs and the lighting fast Bailey Roberts-Lintmeijer from Newington – one of the speediest in the game and also a track and field gun.

Also in this side is Braith Sloane fromNewington, a country lad who Canterbury has just re-signed for three years.

Illuiyaz Viliamu and Anakin Richardson, who have long been identified as rugby rising stars, are in the GPS 3rd XV along with Bede Clout who is captaining the side

CAS will be looking to turn plenty of heads with their line ups for the trials.

Waratahs young gun Nick Kotarac has plenty of talent around him with fellow rep players including Keegan Daly, Taj Smith, Thomas Haslam, Jarvis Orr, TJ Talaileva, Harrison Dene and Brock Prideaux

Max Prykiel from Knox is in the 2nds and also playing Harold Matts for Manly.

Teammate Riley Ilham also played for the Central Coast in the Laurie Daley Cup.
