St George Illawarra Dragons young gun Andie Robinson wants to pursue a career in media off the field one day.

But right now she’s writing a different story altogether on it - alongside her league playing partner.

The 20-year-old outside back and daughter of a former NRL gun has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in NSW rugby league with a stunning debut for the U19 Blues in the State of Origin and an equally impressive one more recently in the NRLW.

Robinson, whose father Clint Robinson played with the Balmain Tigers in the late 1980s and early 90s, was an award winner at the recent Brad Fittler medal night for her three-try heroics in the U19 women’s Origin earlier this year.

Since then she has made her debut for the St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRLW — just two weeks after boyfriend Kade Dykes made his for the Cronulla Sharks in the NRL.

“He made his debut and then I made mine. That was so cool. We never imagined it would happen like this,’’ Robinson said ahead of the Dragons’ crucial match-up with the Newcastle Knights this weekend.

“It was a bit of a race between us to see who would they be first, he beat me by a couple of weeks.

“I’ve overtaken him though because I scored in my first game. We are very competitive.’’

The couple, who have been together for four years, also spend time training together.

“It is nice to share this, it is awesome we get to do this together,’’ Robinson said.

“We are always at the park training, for fun and seriously develop our schools skills.

“It’s so cool we are working towards the same goals.

“I was so excited for him when he made his debut, he’s made a lot of sacrifices to get there, never goes out, never drinks, never does anything like that.

“He was there when I debuted as well but I couldn’t find him, even after the game I saw everyone before him.

“Apparently I scored right in front of him though.”

A former sevens rugby player, Robinson said her goal was to play in the NRLW as soon as she started to play rugby league.

“Playing was my goal from the moment I started playing rugby league,“ Robinson said.

“I just didn’t think it would happen so quickly.’’

Robinson also played for the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks in the 2022 Harvey Norman NSW women’s premiership this year with the former Saint Patricks College Sutherland student now studying a bachelor of journalism at Wollongong Uni.

The Dragons, fresh off their golden-point thriller against the Broncos, take on the Knights on the Central Coast on Sunday in the final game of the NRLW triple-header.
