South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell has dropped the booze but picked up the “tins”.

Mitchell’s pre-season body transformation had set tongues wagging after the 27-year-old cut a fit and trim figure over the summer at Heffron Park.

But now the influential fullback has now unveiled a buff and bulked up figure, like Rabbitohs fans have never seen before.

Mitchell has been back in his home town of Taree, on the NSW mid-north coast, but that hasn’t stopped him from hitting the gym, and the weights, ahead of South Sydney’s season opener against the Dolphins on March 7.

Mitchell showed off his bulging biceps with an array of upper body workouts including bicep curls, seated rows and a bench press.

“Throwing some Tin around,” Mitchell posted on Instagram as he hit a local Taree gym.

South Sydney skipper Cameron Murray said Mitchell has spent the summer building not only his body but a “game face” and is ready to be unleashed by coach Wayne Bennett in round 1.

“Trell is going really well, he’s good,” Murray said told this masthead.

“Like the rest of us at training, he’s so committed.

“He’s made a lot of sacrifices off the field to make sure he is the best version of himself on the field. That’s the expectation for every one at the club at the moment, not just Latrell.

“He seems like he’s really happy. He’s keeping everything simple in his head, ticking all the right boxes and being as consistent as he can be at training. He’s building that game face.

“I think we are all heading in the right direction, not just Latrell. But he’s made a lot of sacrifices and hopefully they pay off.”

Mitchell has been on a self-imposed booze ban since late last year after he was embroiled in white substance photo saga back in August while sidelined with a foot injury.

The NRL whacked the star fullback with a $20,000 and a one game ban over the image for bringing the game into disrepute.

Last month, the governing body ruled the suspension could served in this weekend’s All Stars after the Rabbitohs lodged a request to have the counted towards the ban, making Mitchell available for round one.

South Sydney also hit Mitchell with a $100,000 fine – $80,000 of which was suspended – over the leaked photo scandal.

Mitchell hasn’t played since July last year after a foot injury prematurely ended his season.

Mitchell only managed 11 games for the struggling Rabbitohs in 2024 as he battled with injury and form issues during the season.

Bennett’s arrival at South Sydney has been a major catalyst in Mitchell’s transformation both at training and off the field.

The master coach warned Rabbitohs players that there would be consequences for not being up to standard at training when it came to fitness and conditioning.

Bennett also had a one-on-one over the summer with Mitchell, who has heeded the coach’s pre-season warning.

This masthead revealed in October that Mitchell had demolished a private bar in his home to make way for a gym complete with weights, yoga mats and a sauna.
