THE best NRL grudge match of next year will be Manly against the Newcastle Knights.

In an interview last week, new Manly coach Trent Barrett named all his previous coaches who had helped him during his career along the way to securing the top job at Brookvale.

Everyone got a mention except Nathan Brown, his old coach at St George Illawarra.

There is still ill-feeling from the infamous slap-in-the-face on the sideline in Wollongong way back in 2003.

Barrett has never forgiven Brown.

Newcastle-Manly games have been special since the blood and thunder of Paul Harragon and Mark “Spud” Carroll.
