The Titans have been forced to relocate to Sydney early for their clash with Canterbury on Sunday due to the club’s training fields being two metres under water, and their dojo flooded by Queensland’s rain bomb.
Gold Coast’s headquarters were badly damaged with the club moving to Sydney Olympic Park from Tuesday ahead of the game against Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground.
Gold Coast won’t return home until Monday.
The Titans will leave Gold Coast on Tuesday although the club on Monday morning hadn’t nailed down their training field in Sydney.
Shifting cities will be a considerable challenge for Gold Coast, who haven’t played an NRL game this season following a Round 1 bye.
Aware of looming rain, Gold Coast relocated all training equipment that would have been exposed to the weather to higher ground.
“First and foremost, our thoughts as a club are for those across our region that are doing it tough as a result of this weather event and immense rainfall that has followed,” Titans chief executive Steve Mitchell said.
“Like many, we have had significant damage to our facilities as well and that means we need to change how we operate while we also mop up the damage.
“Working with our players, staff and their families, we first needed to check on the welfare of our people to make sure they were ok, and we’ve offered our support to those who need it most.
“With our high performance centre unusable for training this week, we will send our team to Sydney early to ensure they can properly prepare for our first game of the season this Sunday against the Bulldogs at Belmore.”
Meanwhile, the Broncos have returned to training in Brisbane ahead of their clash with the Raiders in Canberra on Saturday.
“The Clive Berghofer Centre (Broncos Headquarters) has re-opened and has returned to normal operations. At this stage, there has been no significant damage to the Red Hill training facilities and fields,” the Broncos said in a club statement on Monday.
