PARRAMATTA EELS

Ratings by Fatima Kdouh

1 ISAIAH IONGI - Come up with a try saving tackle, putting his body on the line against the much bigger Jeral Skelton. But couldn’t inject himself into the game. RATING: 4

2 SEAN RUSSELL - Scored a consolation try. Didn’t shy away from tough carries but failed to threaten the Tigers and was troubled in defence, missing five tackles. RATING: 3

3 WILL PENISINI - Coughed up the ball twice in the first half and struggled to shut down the Tigers’ right-side raids. Missed five tackles. RATING: 3

4 ZAC LOMAX - Went looking for work, running for 166 metres, but didn’t get enough clean, early ball. Missed a crucial tackle that led to the Lachlan Galvin try. RATING: 5

5 JORDAN SAMRANI - A commendable debut. The highlight was a late break. Finished with 176 metres and six tackle busts RATING: 5.5

6 DYLAN BROWN - Took on the line early to a chorus of boos and made some strong runs early. Commanded the ball more in the second half but couldn’t fire a shot. He didn’t look like the richest man in the NRL. RATING: 3

7 RONALD VOLKMAN - Took on the kicking duties in general play but struggled to take control and steer the side. His kicking hardly troubled the Tigers. RATING: 2

8 JOE OFAHENGAUE - Came back on in the final 10 minutes to finish with 77 metres. RATING: 3.5

9 BRENDAN HANDS - Gave up easy possession with a forward pass from the ruck, gave away a penalty and didn’t return after a 25-minute stint. RATING: 2.5

10 JUNIOR PAULO - Took some strong carries but both he and Ofahengaue were outplayed by Tigers powerhouse prop Terrell May. RATING: 4.5

11 SHAUN LANE - First game back from a knee injury and it showed. Was a handful early but faded out of the game. RATING: 4

12 JACK WILLIAMS - Easily the most productive Eels forward. Ran hard and hit even harder with his bruising hits forcing a first half change over. Finished with 112 metres and 35 tackles. RATING: 5.5

14 RYLEY SMITH - Had a try denied after coming on in the 25th minute. Didn’t show enough of the deception he is capable of at the ruck. Like the crafty second half kick to force a seven tackle set. RATING: 5

16 KITIONE KAUTOGA - A decent club debut without setting the world on fire. RATING: 4

WESTS TIGERS

Ratings by Pamela Whaley

1 JAHREAM BULA - Light on his feet, heavy on the magic. Set up a length-of-the-field try for Lachlan Galvin in the first half. RATING: 8.5

2 SUNIA TURUVA - He gave up a significant height advantage but still had it all over Sean Russell to score a hatrick of tries. RATING: 8

3 ADAM DOUEHI - Good day out. Kicked four from six conversions and chipped perfectly for Galvin’s try. RATING: 7.5

4 STARFORD TOA - Set up Turuva for the first try of the game but showed a few signs of poor discipline. RATING: 6.5

5 JERAL SKELTON - Ran for 156 metres from a whopping 21 carries, scored one try and held up for another. All in a solid day’s work for a winger. RATING: 7.5

6 LACHLAN GALVIN - Laid out a few stray passes but had some joy with his boot and found his confidence. A class player who finished with four tackle busts, one linebreak, one linebreak assist and two try assists to go along with a try for himself. RATING: 8.5
