BRONCOS winger Lachlan Maranta will miss the start of the NRL season after fracturing his wrist.

The 23-year-old, a favourite of coach Wayne Bennett, injured his arm at training last Thursday, with a specialist confirming today that he will require surgery.

The injury will rule Maranta out for 10 to 12 weeks, meaning he will miss next month’s All Stars game and the World Club Challenge, as well as the start of the season in early March.

Maranta was expected be part of the Broncos starting line-up for the first month, with regular centre Jack Reed not scheduled to return from a shoulder injury until April.
