Sydney trains impacted by NRL, NRLW Grand Finals

Commuters travelling to the NRL grand final by train are facing up to 30 minutes delays as kick-off looms near.

Footy fans travelling to the NRL grand final by train could face up to 30 minute delays ahead of kick-off, as urgent track repair is required.

Sydney Trains alerted passengers travelling to Olympic Park to expect delays up to 30 minutes after “urgent track repairs at Flemington” was required on Sunday.

“Due to urgent track repairs at Flemington Central to Olympic Park services are being diverted to Rhodes,” authorities stated.

“Olympic Park trains from the West and Lidcombe continue to run.

“Allow plenty extra travel time, check transport apps or information screens for service changes.”

Those travelling to the game should be aware services may have changed, with passengers being urged to be aware of different platforms.

“Check transport apps or information screens for service changes,” Sydney Trains stated.

It comes as more than 20 trainlines impacted by changes or delays across the grand final weekend.

Three major events will run over the holiday weekend, including the NRL and NRLW Grand Finals, and the Koori Knockout near Tuggerah.

All of the Harbour City’s numbered trainlines, T1-T9, will be impacted by the duel Grand Finals, beginning in the afternoon on Sunday.

Express trains will run regularly from Central Station in Surry Hills to Olympic Park, stopping at Redfern, Strathfield then Olympic Park.

Trains also run regularly to Lidcombe in the city’s west where commuters can head to Platform Zero for a direct train to Olympic Park station.

After the match, trains will run to Central until late, with limited stop services to run between Western Line stations to Olympic Park until late.

Pre-purchased tickets to the NRL and NRLW Grand Finals at Accor Stadium in Olympic Park include travel on trains, buses, and trams.

Fans will also head to the NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Koori Knockout at The Central Coast Regional Sporting and Recreation Complex.

Transport for NSW advised fans on Sunday the nearest station to the complex was in Tuggerah on The Central Coast and Newcastle Lines.

While not attracting the same crowds, the Transport Heritage Expo will also impact services with trains running regularly to Central.

There were 40,000 fans who packed the stadium to watch the game.

It’s expected to be a a full house by the time the NRL grand final between the Brisbane Broncos and the Penrith Panthers starts.
