Tom Sangster reveals the key stats to get you over the line in KFC SuperCoach Round 9.
From sneaky cash grabs, to important points per minute data, to durability (or lack thereof).
These are numbers that matter.
WHY CRICHTON CAN KICK AHEAD AS A CASH GRAB
Stephen Crichton is popular this week as a quick money-maker. The numbers certainly make sense – he has a BE of -14 and predicted rise of $125,000 over the next two weeks, according to SuperCoach Plus.
He is also confirmed the goalkicking duties this week as Nathan Cleary battles a groin issue and here lies the stat that could really tip the trade in his favour. In seven games as the favoured goalkicker over the last two seasons, Crichton has averaged a massive 81.6.
HOW WILL GARRICK GO AT CENTRE?
Manly’s Reuben Garrick has dominated on the wing this season in averaging 77.6 (concussion-affected game removed), which is proper keeper areas. But he moves to centre this week and the prevailing view is that his SuperCoach scoring will reduce, especially if Tom Trbojevic (groin) doesn’t get up. But are there any stats to back that view up? Well, Garrick has played just one game at centre in his career – way back in his debut season in 2019 – so it’s hardly a large sample size. He scored 38 in that match.
CAN THE GOS PUMP HIS PPM?
Jack Gosiewski is the third most purchased cheapie this week after averaging 40.5 in 71 minutes in his two games this year. However, there’s one word of warning. The Gos’s work rate has never been a strong point. In the last three seasons his points per minute rates are 0.56, 0.65 and 0.64. By way of comparison, the top averaging 2RF in SuperCoach this year Zac Hosking has a PPM of 0.96.

STAT THAT SETS FONUA-BLAKE APART
Speaking of PPM, Addin Fonua-Blake has always been one of the leaders in the prop position. But he’s taken it to a new level this season. AFB is scoring at a PPM of 1.26 in 2023, significantly ahead of his numbers from the last few seasons of 0.96, 1.05, 1.17 and 1.2.
TIME FOR SLOAN TO TURN UP THE BASE
Dragons fullback Tyrell Sloan is the most purchased player this week as SuperCoaches chase round 13 coverage and a quick cash grab along the way (BE -36 and projected rise of $77,800 this week). He also has a very favourable run against the Bulldogs, Tigers and Cowboys. However, here’s where the stat line gets ugly. Sloan’s base is almost non-existent, averaging 16, 13 and 19 in pure base over the last three seasons.
TOHU’S HORROR HISTORY LAID BARE
Almost 6,000 SuperCoaches have offloaded Tohu Harris this week following his latest injury, with many more to come. His unavailability has highlighted a major problem with Tohu – durability. The veteran Warrior has played just 13, 20, 15 and 15 games over the last four seasons.
