Angus Crichton has come out swinging after the Sydney Roosters moved to sign fellow second-rower David Fifita.

After a bidding war, the Roosters beat out Penrith and the Dragons to snare Fifita on a four-year, $3.3 million deal.

Both Crichton and Fifita like to operate on the left-edge and the current Rooster, who is coming off a two-try effort in Sunday’s win over the Warriors, said no one at the club had discussed the recruitment with him.

The 28-year-old concedes it has made him question the club’s plans moving forward.

“It does make you question where their head’s at,” he said. “No one’s talked to me, which is funny.

“Obviously, it’s an interesting one for me to take, all I can do is play good footy and keep putting my hand up to be there on the left.

“No one’s talked to me and I’m not sure if they will.

“Last I heard they were keen (to re-sign me), but then obviously that (Fifita news) comes out. “It’s an interesting one and something I’ll have to monitor.

“I think if I just keep playing good footy, it’s good to have options and figure out where I’ll be.”

Crichton, who was dropped to reserve grade earlier in the season before rocketing into Origin contention over the past month, is off contract at the end of this season.

He has previously been linked with a switch to rugby union and is open to either footy code.

While coach Trent Robinson has stressed the door is not closed to Crichton in 2025 and beyond, the Blues and Kangaroos representative has no plans to play second fiddle.

“I don’t want to be sitting behind anyone,” he said.

“It’s literally the first time where I’ve just been open to whatever. I think if there’s an opportunity that makes sense, then I’ll definitely look at it.

“I’m not going to rush it, especially with the Fifita stuff that’s come out now.

“I think it’s a good enough reason for me to take my time and make smart decisions, and – wherever I want to be – I want to be playing, and I want to be playing well and getting the best out of myself.”
