Bali getaways, Cook Islands coaching clinics: How NRLW stars are spending off-season
Some of the biggest names in the NRLW are relaxing in Bali after a big season, while others are running coaching clinics and tournaments for kids on the Cook Islands. See all the off-season action.
It’s the traditional getaway for rugby league players for a reason.
Bali has had an influx of NRLW talent over the past few weeks with a stack of players landing for some well-earned down time in an island paradise.
Fresh off winning the Pacific Championships with the Jillaroos, superstars Olivia Kernick, Jess Sergis, Isabelle Kelly and Keeley Davis touched down in Bali for some much-needed rest and relaxation.
They were joined by their partners, including Manly winger Tommy Talau, and fellow NRLW stars Romy Teitzel, Jaime Chapman and Leianne Tufuga.
Sharing snapshots of their holiday from the beach and restaurants and bars across Bali, the huge group celebrated the end of a massive women’s season which started with a Jillaroos test against England in Las Vegas, and ended just a fortnight ago.
It’s a regular off-season trip for the group of friends who regularly spend their off-season in Indonesia exploring the islands with cocktails by the pool.
Meanwhile, another group of NRLW players headed to the Cook Islands for a bit of a working holiday.
Sydney Rooster star Corban Baxter and Parramatta’s Kiana Takairangi jointly run a clinic called CK Athletic Development in Cronulla, but have taken a few mates over to the Cook Islands in their break to give back to the island community.
Baxter and Takairangi have been joined by former NRL player Brad Takairangi, as well as NRL stars Tayla Preston, Kennedy Cherrington and Bo Vette Welsh in the beautiful South Pacific, running coaching clinics and rugby league nines tournaments for kids.
For the past few weeks they’ve been interacting with the kids and teaching rugby league skills, while also taking some down time to explore and relax on the islands.
Both Baxter and Takairangi are coaches in the making.
Baxter in particular was part of the Roosters coaching staff this season with their junior representatives pathways.
Back in Australia and there’s Christmas catch ups happening all over.
In Brisbane, the NRLW premiers met up with a few friends at the Burleigh Pavillion to celebrate the end of the year.
Broncos stars Julia Robinson, Ali Brigginshaw, Chelsea Lenarduzzi, Tamika Upton, Hayley Maddick and Shenae Ciesiolka as well as Titans gun Lauren Brown and injured Roosters halfback Tarryn Aiken caught up at the famed oceanside location.
