Kalyn Ponga has retained his crown. For the second year in succession, the Newcastle captain has finished atop the rugby league Rich 100, his $1.3 million salary making him the highest earner in the NRL.
Ponga, in the midst of a mega-deal that has another two years to run, edged three other superstars as the game’s greatest earner - Penrith captain Nathan Cleary, Parramatta playmaker Mitchell Moses and Manly sensation Tom Trbojevic.
Melbourne Storm and Queensland five-eighth Cameron Munster rounded out the top five in News Corp’s annual survey of rugby league’s biggest earners.
Moses is among the big movers this year as his rich deal kicks into gear, jumping from 10th spot last year to third in 2024.

Gold Coast captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui has moved up 16 spots to No.6 in a sign of how valuable he is to the Titans and how much he was missed this year after succumbing to a knee injury.
Nicho Hynes, who heads into the finals with plenty to prove, has risen a remarkable 64 spots after signing a rich deal last year while Steve Crichton, Jeremiah Nanai and Harry Grant have new deals that reflect their standing in the game.
At the opposite end of the spectrum is Luke Brooks, whose move from the Wests Tigers to Manly came with a reduction in his million-dollar wage. Former NSW and Australian prop David Klemmer also slipped in the pecking order after the Knights stopped supplementing his wage.
There are surprising absences, among the most notable Brisbane sensation Reece Wash. It will only be short-lived - Walsh is poised to sign a deal that catapults him into the list next season and close to the top in the years that follow.
Maroons forwards Reuben Cotter and Lindsay Collins will also enter the Rich 100 next year.
