Former English-born Manly grand final-winning forward Phil Lowe has died aged 74.

A wide-running back-rower, Lowe was part of the Sea Eagles’ 1976 famous grand final side, which defeated Parramatta 13-10 at the SCG.

Lowe scored a try in the grand final.

Incredibly, Manly fielded three English players in the 1976 decider – Lowe, Steve Norton and Gary Stephens.

Lowe was a former Hull KR and Great Britain forward who competed in the 1972 World Cup.

He played more than 400 games for HKR, scoring 179 tries.

A Daily Mirror report in the UK read: “Lowe was revered in Australia where he became a huge favourite at Manly.

“He featured alongside Lions teammate Mal Reilly for the Sydney club, playing 72 games between 1974 and 1976.

“Lowe scored the only try of the game when Manly won the 1976 Grand Final against Parramatta.”
