Latrell Mitchell has confronted NRL 360 host Braith Anasta in Sydney over perceived personal attacks.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs fullback took issue with the 42-year-old former NRL player over comments he has made regarding him and his teammates this season.

The confrontation unfolded in Surry Hills while both parties were separately out for dinner at restaurant Chin Chin on Wednesday night, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The two were seen engaging in conversation before Mitchell reportedly asked the TV host to step outside where he is said to have questioned him on why he was making matters personal with his views.

The report stated the exchange between the pair was animated but never turned physical.

Both the Rabbitohs and Anasta’s employer Fox Sports had no comment in relation to the matter when contacted by news.com.au.

The criticism of the Rabbitohs has come in thick and fast throughout the 2024 NRL season with the club languishing in last place on the ladder.

Through the opening nine rounds their only win came in round four when they defeated the Canterbury Bulldogs 20-16.

They’ve currently lost 15 out of their previous 20 matches and became the first club to concede at least 28 points eight times through nine matches of an NRL season.

Mitchell has been at the centre of harsh criticism which magnified after he was handed a three-week suspension following the club’s round five encounter against the Warriors in early April.

The poweful fullback has been repeatedly criticised for a perceived lack of effort and conditioning throughout the season, with many calling for him to be moved back to the centres.

In early May, coach Jason Demetriou was sacked after a club board meeting was called to decide his fate.

At the time Anasta and fellow NRL 360 panel members raised questions about Mitchell’s place in the team and whether the club should shift him away from the fullback position.

“There’s talk that Latrell should be a centre. There’s got to be someone in the system, that’s the role of the recruitment to have a backup in case he goes down,” NRL legend Gordon Tallis said on NRL 360.

“You just have to look at all of his old footage from the Roosters and when he was at his best there and it’s in the centres.

“When he’s dominated State of Origin it’s in the centres. When he gets quality ball he makes his opposition look like kids.”

Anasta pointed out that Mitchell struggles with defensive positioning as a fullback.

“You look at the great fullbacks in our game and they’re there before the play is there. They pre-empt it, they are moving before the ball goes, they are on the bike,” Anasta said.

“He gets caught out a lot in defence, he’s very rarely in the frame at the last second when there’s a try or when he’s got an opportunity to save a try.

“That’s where he needs to improve on. That comes down to fitness too Gordie and comes down to being one of those high energy fullbacks. He plays differently.”

Tallis replied: “They run more than any other player in the game the fullbacks. Do we want him doing that or do we want him to be a strike player?”

While the criticism for the club shows no signs of slowing down, the positive for Souths is they play the lowly Cowboys, Parramatta and the Titans in the next month which are all winnable games.
