Tim Tszyu has put on a performance that has made the boxing world stand up and take notice, brutally dispatching American Joey Spencer

Tim Tszyu celebrates emphatic win over Spencer

The boxing world is in awe of Tim Tszyu after the Aussie put on a clinic against gritty American Joey Spencer in Newcastle.

With immense pressure and under heavy scrutiny coming into Sunday’s fight off back-to-back losses, Tszyu could not have been more dominant in his fourth round TKO victory.

The Australian was patient from the outset, measuring his opponent up early before turning it on in the fourth round.

While Tszyu was in control from start to finish, in the fourth he showcased his talent, unleashing his power and hand speed with a series of blows to Spencer’s bloody and swollen face.

Such was the onslaught that Spencer’s father, Jason, was left with no choice but to throw in the towel with his son shelled up against the rope and badly outclassed.

'He's BACK' – Tszyu blitz melts Spencer

A former two-time prospect of the year, Spencer was no easy beat, but Tszyu made it look easy, as he declared “I’m back” post-fight and who could dispute that?

“The critics. They’re always going to be there,” he said post-fight

“I proved it to everyone in the world: I’m back, baby. I’m back.

“I learned from my mistakes. You don’t go in like a hothead from the first round. I learned my lesson, I had one hell of an opponent in Joey Spencer. He’s going to have plenty more opportunities in the future.”

And the boxing world was taken aback by just how good Tszyu looked.

Boxing journalist Dan Rafael wrote on X: “Tszyu TKO4 Spencer. Slow start, poised, under control and then kicked his ass.”

Boxing Kingdom also took to X to write: “Impressive performance by Tim Tszyu. TKO win in round four. He looked great when on the attack. Tszyu got tagged a lot during the first three rounds, so massive improvements defensively still need to be made. Would be nice to see Tszyu link up with Ben Davison or a more tactical trainer.”

Spencer heckled before Tszyu bout

While another added: “Tim Tszyu a dawg man. A true old-school fighter of this era.”

While the win means along with his Hall of Fame father Kostya and younger brother Nikita, the Tszyu family have extended their undefeated run to 51 straight fights on Australian soil.

And Tszyu will look to continue that in July when he is set to cross paths with American superstar Keith Thurman, who only last month celebrated his own comeback against Brock Jarvis.

Asked about the Thurman bout post-fight, Tszyu said: “Sign the contract big boy. Sign the contract.

“If the fans want it and we can bring a mega show to Australia … the boys at No Limit you know who to contact.”
