Police footage has shown the moment Brandon Wakeham was arrested outside Brookvale Oval in Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old NRL player was picked up by police at Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles training and is suspected of possessing cocaine and supplying MDMA.

The vision, which you can watch above, shows how several members of the NSW Police Force approached Wakeham before advising the NRL player he’s under arrest.

“We’re recording this interaction, you’re currently under arrest for drug supply from February,” an officer said.

“You don’t have to say or do anything if you don’t want to, do you understand that?”

Wearing grey tracksuit paints and a t-shirt, Wakeham had handcuffs applied before being sat down on a garden edge as police began to go through his vehicle and belongings.

Wakeham was then walked down the road and loaded into the back of a police van before being taken to Manly police station.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Wakeham was charged with with taking part in supplying prohibited drugs greater than large commercial quantities, taking part in supplying prohibited drugs and participating in a criminal group.

He was refused bail to appear before Manly Local Court on Thursday.

The Manly Sea Eagles released a statement on Thursday, stating they had notified the NRL integrity unit.

“The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have been made aware of an incident involving Brandon Wakeham, a Blacktown Workers contracted player, who has been arrested and charged on drug-related matters,” the statement read.

“The club understands he is scheduled to appear in Manly Court today, and confirms that it has notified the NRL integrity unit that it will fully cooperate in all aspects of the matter.”

Wakeham signed with Blacktown this season after playing 15 games with the Wests Tigers last season.

Blacktown are a NSW Cup feeder club to the Manly Sea Eagles, with Wakeham having been named in the halves for the team’s game against the Bulldogs this weekend.

Prior to his stint with the Tigers, Wakeham appeared in 25 games for the Bulldogs from 2019-2022.

“When the opportunity came up to sign a quality half like Brandon, we didn’t hesitate to grab him,’’ Blacktown Workers General Manager of Football Todd Darvall said early this year.

“Brandon has played 40 NRL games through stints at Canterbury and the Wests Tigers. He has also represented Fiji in 10 Test matches.

“He will be a key asset in leading our Blacktown team around the field this season. His knowledge and leadership qualities will be invaluable.”

It’s the second drug-related incident to rock the NRL within the last month, after Sharks half Braydon Trindall was charged for failing an alcohol and illicit drugs road-side test on April 22.

Trindall could return for the Sharks in Magic Round this weekend pending an adjournment of his court appearance which is slated for Friday.

Trindall’s legal team have informed Cronulla that an adjournment is possible considering they are awaiting the results of a second drug sample.
