MELBOURNE Storm star Billy Slater had nothing left to give after a remarkable return to Origin football and it left his emotions overflowing.
The 34-year-old Melbourne star was rubbed out of the NRL for virtually two straight seasons after recurring shoulder issues.

Then he had to play his way back into the Queensland side after being controversially overlooked for the 2017 series opener.
In an interview with Triple M NRL after the Maroons’ thrilling 18-16 win over NSW in game two at ANZ Stadium, his emotions overflowed.
“Words can’t describe it, mate,” Slater said, choking back tears. “I didn’t think I’d get like this.
“A lot of hard work’s been put in, not just by myself, but the support staff at Melbourne.”

Slater’s form since returning from his long injury lay-off has been stunning and he continued some of that on Wednesday night.
By full-time, the veteran had amassed 16 runs, 106 run metres, two tackle busts, one try assist and one linebreak assist.
