Sharks superstar Nicho Hynes could find himself in hot water after a frustrated outburst directed at touch judge Belinda Sharpe on Sunday afternoon.

The 27-year-old reigning Dally M Medallist throw an arching cut-out ball to Sione Katoa in the second half against Manly as the score sat 30-4.

The Cronulla winger scored the try before referee Peter Gough signalled for a forward pass, prompting Hynes to raise three fingers and walk towards Sharpe.

It remains unclear what Hynes’ said to the touch judge but the on-field referee was quick to silence the superstar halfback who continued to hold up three fingers.

“Nicho, Nicho, come here,” Gough said in a stern manner.

“Don’t say another word... don’t walk away from me, come here.

“You do not have the right to talk to me or my team in any manner. Do it again and you’ll find yourself off the field, enough.”

Hynes replied by saying: “What did I say? I said that’s three.”

Veteran rugby league reporter Phil Rothfield confirmed the match review committee will review what Hynes said to Sharpe on Monday morning and given Reece Walsh’s recent incident, he could find himself in hot water.

“The NRL are going to listen to audio today... they are just going to check it out,” Rothfield said on the Big Sports Breakfast,

“The pass that Nicho blew up about, I have seen hundreds of them that haven’t been pulled back.

“I’m not complaining because the Sharks didn’t deserve to win yesterday, I’m just trying to highlight frustration... and Nicho out of character might have said something to the touch judge.

“The referee did have to warn him not to speak to his officials in the manner which he did.”

After Gough intervened, rugby league legend Cooper Cronk also praised the manner in which he handled the incident.

“Well handled by the referee,” Cronk said.

“They are under pressure and Nicho Hynes absolutely gave the touch judge a gob-full.

“The touch judge was right there... that doesn’t give Nicho Hynes the right.”

Walsh was handed a three-game suspension for abusing referee Chris Buttler, while the young fullback maintained his spray was directed at Pat Carrigan in his judiciary hearing.
