The Parramatta Eels have suffered a debilitating 34-4 defeat to the Canterbury Bulldogs in Sydney Olympic Park, with a late blunder from halfback Mitchell Moses epitomised their woeful performance.

The Bulldogs were leading by 24 points in the 71st minute when a classy offload from Eels prop Junior Paulo set up Moses for a comfortable try under the posts.

But the 27-year-old slowed down while approaching the white line, preparing to nonchalantly place the footy down for a four-pointer.

However, Moses’ carelessness gave Canterbury five-eighth Matt Burton an opportunity to sprint back and slap the Steeden out of his hands before completing what should have been a regulation try.

Burton couldn’t resists rubbing salt into the wounds, bending and giving Moses a playful shove before celebrating with his teammates.

And to make matters worse for the visitors, Bulldogs fullback Jake Averillo dived over for his second try of the night less than 60 seconds later.

Canterbury ultimately secured a comfortable 30-point victory in front of 20,184 at Accor Stadium, pushing themselves out of bottom spot on the NRL ladder.

It was also coach Mick Potter‘s first win at NRL level in eight years.

Bulldogs winger Josh Addo-Carr, who finished with a hat-trick, has now scored five tries in two games to let Blues coach Brad Fittler know he is in-form and raring to go should there be changes to the NSW side for Origin II.

Burton’s left foot provided the 26-year-old with two of his three tries against a Parramatta side playing off the back foot most of the game.

The fastest man on the planet was in the action early, running onto a beautiful crossfield kick from Burton to touch down for the opening try.

The winger showed his passion for the Canterbury cause, leaping in the air and tugging at the Bulldogs emblem.

The Bulldogs then turned a potential Parramatta try into a four-pointer at the other end following some exceptional work from Averillo.

Reagan Campbell-Gillard poured through a huge hole and charged his way to the Canterbury 20m line before passing inside to Isaiah Papali‘i.

But the ball never reached its intended target, Averillo reeling in the intercept and racing 80m to score under the posts.

The mistakes and ill-discipline kept flowing from the Eels as the Bulldogs continued to turn the screws.

A shift on halfway caught Parramatta short on numbers on their left edge and Jacob Kiraz, ignoring support outside him, cut back inside and motored past Clint Gutherson to score under the posts.

The 16-0 lead was Canterbury‘s biggest advantage of the season – but it was about to get a whole lot better.

The Bulldogs will next face the Wests Tigers at CommBank Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 4.05pm AEST.
