Oh no, not again. This is becoming ridiculous.

North Queensland’s trainer has been again caught spraying a football with water in an act deemed unsavoury.

This masthead uncovered another ball-squirting drama during North Queensland’s 30-all draw with Penrith in Townville last weekend.

Vision showed Cowboys blue-shirt trainer Mitchell Dunn twice shooting water over the ball as North Queensland stood behind the tryline after conceding a Panthers try.

Dunn can be clearly seen collecting the ball, which was lying on the grass, and firing his water bottle straight over the footy. Dunn then inspects the ball before handing it to Cowboys halfback Jake Clifford.

This was the second time Dunn was sprung spraying the ball with water during the Panthers game and it comes after Penrith’s trainer Shane Elford was accused of performing the identical stunt.

The NRL is still considering its response to a scandal dubbed Watergate and an NRL spokesperson said the matter was still under consideration.

Rival clubs insist the NRL must, and will, take action through a breach notice which would lead to a fine or suspension.

Club CEOs are also expecting an NRL edict this week strongly stating trainers cannot touch the ball in future.

It is understood Dunn unbelievably committed the same deed - which could be deemed as an attempt to make the ball heavier and slipperier - a third time in the game.

The NRL is also aware of Elford’s behaviour.

Both trainers have been accused by fans of trying to gain an unfair advantage.

The trainers only squirted water over the ball when their team was about to kick-off to the opposition.

During extra-time, Penrith’s blue-shirt trainer Elford was filmed twice shooting water over the football.

Filthy at Elford’s behaviour, Dunn decided to commit the same act but was caught red-handed by referee Todd Smith.

As golden point was about to start, and with players preparing for kick-off, Smith can be seen and heard yelling at the Cowboys trainer to stop spraying the ball with water.

An irritated Smith said: “Hang on, hang on, no, no, no, no, no, nup, nup, give me the ball. You’re not doing that. No way, get another footy, another football. He squirted it with water.”

Smith then takes the ball and kicks it to the sideline. The trainer then walks behind the play and drinks the same water. While Jake Clifford is on halfway waiting for the new ball to come onto the field so he can kick-off.

“I need a ball,” Smith reiterated. “He squirted the ball with water. C’mon.”

Clubs expect the NRL to take action sometime this week.
