The NRL is investigating after Brisbane Broncos star Ezra Mam was hospitalised following a car crash in Brisbane on Friday.

Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam has been hospitalised after being involved in a car crash in Brisbane on Friday night.

Mam was taken to hospital following a two-car collision with an Uber driver. No one was seriously injured in the crash.

The Courier Mail reports Mam has returned a positive on a roadside drug test. Police are now waiting on the results of a second test to determine if Mam will be charged. The test was negative for alcohol.

“Police are investigating following a two-vehicle traffic crash at Bardon tonight, October 18,” Queensland police said in a statement.

“Initial investigations indicate at approximately 5.20pm, a Ford Ranger utility was travelling north-east along Simpsons Road when it struck a Toyota Camry, travelling in the opposite direction, near the intersection of The Drive.

“Initial roadside drug testing was conducted on the driver of the utility, a 21-year-old Ipswich man; however, police are awaiting results.

“No-one was seriously injured, and investigations are continuing.”

Mam reportedly suffered a blow to the head but was not seriously injured.

The Broncos said in a statement: “Broncos player Ezra Mam has been involved in a road accident this afternoon in Brisbane,” it said.

“He has been transported to hospital for treatment but his injuries appear to be minor at this stage.

“The Broncos have informed the NRL Integrity Unit of the matter. No further comment will be made on the issue at this stage.”

Cronulla playmaker Braydon Trindall and Bulldogs winger Josh Addo-Carr both tested positive to roadside tests earlier this year.

Trindall was fined and disqualified for driving for three months. After a stint in rehab he returned to Cronulla’s side, starring in a semi-final win over the Cowboys.

Addo-Carr’s future is up in the air after he ruled himself out of the Bulldogs’ loss to Manly.

Mam scored three tries in last year’s grand final and signed a five-year contract extension with the Broncos.

The 21-year-old has now been involved in two off-field incidents since Brisbane’s disappointing season ended.

Mam missed the end of the NRL season after undergoing ankle surgery.

Earlier this month, Mam and Brisbane fullback Reece Walsh made headlines when Walsh was photographed lying on a hospital bed after a surfing accident in Bali.

The photo, taken from the “resuscitation area” of a medical facility in Indonesia, also showed Mam standing next to the same hospital bed holding drinks.

That development came after News Corp first reported the NRL received a complaint about the two footballers after an incident in which a member of the public’s mobile phone was allegedly damaged.

Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy has since encouraged his club’s players not to go to Bali.

“From what I understand, I don’t believe there’s a lot in any of it but I strongly encouraged them to perhaps next time they have a holiday that they choose a different destination and possibly turn their phones off,” Donaghy said.

Donaghy said the NRL Integrity Unit had closed its investigation into the talented pair following an incident at a nightspot in Bali.

The Broncos finished 12th on the ladder in 2024 and have appointed Michael Maguire as the club’s new coach, replacing Kevin Walters.
