Braith Anasta swiped over Latrell drama

NRL 360 host Braith Anasta was ducking for cover on Monday night amid some lighthearted jokes about his restaurant confrontation with Rabbitohs fullback Latrell Mitchell.

Days after his heated verbal altercation with the 26-year-old Bunnies star at Surry Hills restaurant Chin Chin, the 42-year-old former NRL player struggled to escape the drama as the Fox League panel discussed the breaking news of Eels coach Brad Arthur getting sacked.

Anasta was firstly swiped by veteran journalist Phil Rothfield as the pair clashed over how Arthur’s sacking went down at Parramatta.

“You can’t afford to have another fight here, after (what happened at) Chin Chin,” Rothfield said to Anasta, as you can see in the video above.

“You want to go outside, we’ll carry on outside,” Anasta said.

Minutes later as NRL legend Cooper Cronk finished his wrap of the weekend’s footy action, Anasta was blindsided by another shot across the bow.

“For someone who carried Fox League’s coverage over Magic Round, you’re looking as fresh as a daisy Coops,” Anasta said.

“Thankyou Braith, I reckon Latrell would’ve had you by the way,” Cronk responded.

“Do you want to go outside and sort it out too?” Anasta replied as he laughed off the joke.

It comes four days after it was reported that Latrell had confronted Anasta while the pair were separately out for dinner at the same restaurant.

Mitchell was reportedly angry over a perception of unfair criticism from Anasta towards himself and the Rabbitohs.

The pair eventually decided to move their argument outside where the argument became increasingly heated but never physical.

Both the Rabbitohs and Anasta’s employer Fox Sports had no comment in relation to the matter when contacted by news.com.au.

However some details of the argument have emerged in recent days, with Fox Sports reporter James Hooper reporting on Triple M’s The Sunday Sin Bin that Latrell struggled to justify his anger at Anasta with specific details of what the NRL 360 host had actually done wrong.

“Latrell’s out of order and someone at South Sydney’s got to pull his coat,” Hooper told Triple M on Sunday.

“I think the only bloke that can probably get Latrell back to his best is Wayne. So that’s why Souths have pursued Wayne as hard as they have.

“I don’t have an issue whatsoever with a player wanting to go up to a member of the media and have a conversation, no problem whatsoever do it every day of the week.

“But my understanding of this situation is when Latrell was asked OK let’s unpack it, what is your beef? What are you angry about? Why do you think I’ve got an agenda against you?

“There was nothing, he couldn’t pull anything out except for insults. That’s not the right way to handle things.

Hooper insisted he was totally fine with players confronting members of the media with criticism, pointing to his NRL legend Gorden Tallis and the way he had confronted journalists in the past.

In the same Triple M segment, Tallis said he was a fan of Latrell’s actions, insisting it’s a better conversation for a player to have face-to-face.

“Firstly I like it. If you’re hurt by what people are saying, he didn’t start bitching, he went up and confronted him, and Braith stood his ground,” Tallis said.

“It probably shouldn’t have got in the papers. Only those two know and it should have stayed between those two.”

However Tallis went on to say the incident points to a deeper problem with Latrell amid a worrying form slump in which he’s likely slipped out of contention for the NSW Blues.

“But Latrell at the moment, there’s something not quite right, he’s gone from probably the most exciting talent (in the NRL), Latrell had a chance to get to that (Greg Inglis level).

“I think he has (lost his way), I just think there’s something wrong, for him to go do that (with Anasta) there’s something deeper (wrong with Latrell).”
