Galving knocked back a huge contract extension to remain at the club and will now depart following the 2026 season.

In the wake of the of news landing speculation ran rife over why the 19-year-old made the call to drop the bomb despite the club showing signs of upward trajectory.

All the early signs are said to be pointing to one man, club legend and current coach Benji Marshall.

The Sydney Morning Herald’s Michael Chammas put it bluntly: “The simple truth is Galvin has no faith in his coach’s ability.”

Galvin’s camp is said to have told club powerbrokers the young star did not believe “he would develop to become the player he wanted to be under Marshall’s coaching.”

Fox Sports Michael Hooper dropped even more damning reasoning behind Galvin’s decision.

Cam Smith tells Tigers to 'move on from Galvin straight away'

“Lachie’s agent, Isaac, he said ‘don’t even bother tabling the offer. We’ve got grievances with the club. Lachie’s not happy with the direction of the coaching at the club and the direction that Benji Marshall is giving him and as a result of that we plan to test Lachie’s value on the open market’,” Hooper said on NRL Tonight.

“The messaging from Lachie and the agent leading the negotiations is that Lachie has genuine beef with Benji and he doesn’t think he’s being properly coached or can improve under him.”

While the speculation behind the decision remains up in the air, what is now known is that Galvin will field monster offers in November from other clubs, with the Bulldogs, Roosters and Eels some of the obvious landing spots.

It’s a big blow for the Tigers who are sitting in the top eight and playing some solid footy under Marshall who has instilled a newfound defensive resolve this season.

Galvin was a big plan going forward, with the club also having to deal with Jarome Luai’s contract clause which allows him to speak with other clubs on November 1 if he choose to not take up his option.

The Tigers have young gun Latu Fainu in the system, but Galvin was someone they could have built their squad around for more than a decade, with the five-eighth destined for higher honours.

“We would like to announce that Lachlan Galvin will not be with the club beyond the 2026 season,” a club statement read.

“Despite the club having the largest contract offer for a junior in the history of the club on the table, Lachlan and his management have decided his future lies elsewhere and were not willing to review the offer.

“It should be noted that the club has NO intention of releasing Lachlan from his contract, and he has not requested this.

“Obviously, there will be a lot of speculation around this release, but we will make no further comment.

“The club is focused on winning as many games as possible during Lachlan’s tenure and beyond.

“The club is disappointed, but we move on.”
