A swashbuckling half-century by opener Naomi Stalenberg laid the foundation for North Hobart to claim back-to-back premierships in the CTPL grand final over the Greater Northern Raiders at Invermay Park on Sunday.
Stalenberg and Melodie Armstrong put on almost a century to open the contest and set North Hobart on its way to a commanding 8-248 off its 48 overs.
The Demons were red-hot with the ball and in the field, suffocating a batting line-up that saw the Raiders embarrass them in Hobart a week earlier to book themselves a home grand final.
The Raiders were rolled for 191 in 146.5 overs, Hayley Silver-Holmes top-scoring for the home side with a game-best 66 runs 84 deliveries, including eight fours.
For the Dees, Stalenberg made it to an even 50 runs off 53 balls, which included seven fours and a six, before she was caught and bowled by Ruth Johnston in the 17th over.
Armstrong anchored the first half of the innings with her steady knock of 48 runs off 78 balls.
The Dees were guided through the middle stages by the critical contributions of Hannah Short (33 off 37) Molly Strano (45 off 55).
All-rounder Mia Barwick made up for her fourth-ball duck with a ferocious spell with the ball, the teenage sensation taking a game-high 5-41 off her nine overs.
North Hobart’s spearhead bowler, vice-captain Clare Scott, was the only teammate to claim multiple wickets.
She took 2-48, which included the wicket of Greater Norther opener Ruth Johnson, ironically caught by Stalenberg, who was happy to return the favour by helping to dismiss the Raider who sent her back to the shed.
The return of Montana Bradley for GNR did not deliver the desired result, the Wynyard batter dismissed for one by Demon spinner Molly Strano.
It was North Hobart’s second CTPL title in a row, with the Demons claiming the trophy last season by default when the game was washed out.
On the final day of the men’s home-and-away series, Kingborough finished on top of the ladder with a first innings win over fourth-placed New Town as Knights opening bowler Cam Walter decimated the Bucks’ top order.
The match between fellow-finalist University and wooden spooner Glenorchy was abandoned while Greater Northern Raiders booked their spot in the semi-finals with a solid win on the road over Lindisfarne.
